Dagara-Inspired Stick Divination for Ancestral Guidance and Ritual Support
When something deeper is ready to speak
Stick divination is a sacred listening practice for moments when something in your life is asking to be seen, tended, or brought back into relationship.
At Moon Somatics, Dagara-inspired stick divination and ritual sessions offer spiritual guidance, ancestral connection, and ritual support for questions around life transitions, creativity, grief, relationships, dreams, purpose, belonging, and the deeper patterns moving through your life.
This work is informed by Dagara stick divination practices shared through lineage-based teachers in the United States. I hold this practice with care, humility, and respect for the larger cultural and spiritual tradition it comes from.
In session, we listen with the support of ritual, the stick, the ancestors, the Wedemé, elemental beings, and the unseen world. This work is not fortune-telling, future prediction, therapy, or medical care. It is a relational spiritual practice that may offer guidance, perspective, and ritual support for what is moving in your life.
Bring your questions, crossroads, dreams, grief, creative longings, or desire for guidance.
This work may be supportive if you are:
At a crossroads in work, love, identity, creativity, grief, purpose, or spiritual life
Seeking clarity around a persistent pattern, relationship, dream, decision, or life question
Drawn to ancestral guidance, elemental spiritual practices, ritual, or the unseen world
Moving through a transition and wanting support that is prescriptive, embodied, relational, and spirit-led
Feeling that something is ready to be witnessed, tended, repaired, or brought back into relationship
What to Expect in a Stick Divination Session
Each stick divination session begins by opening ritual space with gratitude to the spirits of the land, ancestors, guides, elemental forces, and helping presences who support the work.
For online divination sessions, you join from your own space while I hold the stick, divination kit, and ritual field on your behalf. As pieces are drawn, we listen for what is being shown through image, sensation, symbol, story, and spiritual guidance.
The pieces may speak to where you are now, what is surrounding you, what is asking for care, and what kind of ritual support may help bring healing, protection, nourishment, connection, or repair.
Throughout the session, the stick and cowry shells help confirm what is coming through and keep the reading clear, grounded, and aligned.
Because this is a prescriptive form of divination, the session often closes with personalized rituals or practices for you to complete afterward. These help the guidance continue unfolding after our time together ends.
You do not need prior experience with divination, ancestral healing, Dagara cosmology, or any spiritual tradition. You are welcome to arrive exactly as you are.
The Ritual Tools as a Living Landscape
Stick divination is held within a living field of relationship. The tools are not simply objects on a cloth. They are part of how we listen.
The stick, bells, rattle, board, cloth, stones, shells, branches, chalk, and other sacred pieces help call the space into attention. They create rhythm, boundary, grounding, and invitation. Some pieces carry the presence of land, water, ancestors, elemental beings, guides, or other spiritual forces. Others help reveal where something is asking to be tended, witnessed, repaired, or brought back into relationship.
In this way, the divination kit becomes a small ritual landscape. Each piece has its own place, presence, and way of speaking. Together, they help open a conversation between you, the diviner, and the unseen world.
How to Prepare for Your Divination
You do not need perfect questions. Sometimes a question begins as a feeling, a crossroads, a dream, or a part of life asking for deeper attention.
You may bring many questions, one question, or simply an area of life that feels alive. Questions can touch work, health, creativity, love, family, children, pets, ancestral connection, past life memories, grief, transitions, or spiritual guidance. Nothing is too small to bring forward.
For your session, it is customary to bring a quarter as an offering for the Wedemé, the elemental beings called upon in this practice. You are invited to carry the quarter before your session so it can hold your imprint, intention, and connection to what you are bringing.
For remote divination sessions, you may mail your quarter before or after we meet. This offering becomes part of the ritual container and helps connect your presence to the divination process from a distance.
Bring your questions, curiosity, dreams, grief, or openness to receive.

Care, Consent, and Spiritual Clarity
Stick divination is a spiritual and ritual practice, not therapy, medical care, mental health treatment, diagnosis, or crisis support. It is not meant to replace care from a licensed medical, mental health, legal, or financial professional.
In session, my role is to help hold a clear ritual container for communication with the ancestors, the Wedemé, elemental beings, and other helping presences. The work is held through protocols that support respect, consent, spiritual safety, and clear boundaries.
Divination may touch emotionally tender material, ancestral grief, or intergenerational patterns. I hold this work with care and steadiness, while also recognizing that some experiences may need support beyond the scope of divination. When appropriate, I may encourage you to seek care from a licensed therapist, medical provider, or another qualified professional, and I can offer referrals when possible.
Lineage, Respect & Right Relationship
This work is informed by Dagara stick divination practices from Burkina Faso, West Africa, as shared through lineage-based teachers in the United States. This practice came to me through study, apprenticeship, and relationship with teachers connected to this lineage.
I approach this work with humility, gratitude, and care for the elders, teachers, ancestors, spirits, and communities connected to this tradition. I use the language “Dagara-inspired” and “lineage-informed” as a way to be transparent about my relationship to the practice.
My intention is not to claim ownership or authority over a living cultural and spiritual tradition, but to practice with care, consent, reciprocity, and respect.
